Tried to locate a newspaper sports article I read a week or so ago but guess I tossed it. But the gist of it was a writeup on the new PEI Rocket hockey team and how they played an exhibition game. About halfway through the article was a detailed section on how a certain player belted an opposing player and how well he landed his punches... it read a bit like a Boxing match article.
Do we have to highlight the fighting? Is it great to read "...he landed a few good jabs and a great uppercut..." Can't we just describe the speed of the game, the great passing, super moves, great dekes? Why highlight, why mention at all the ferocity of the icelevel fighting? Seems if I fight on the ice its OK, if I did the same on the street, I'd be arrested!

That's it exactly - fighting on the ice is okay, fighting off the ice isn't. Like it or not, fighting's part of hockey, just as much as great passing, super moves, and great dekes.

I agree, fighting is a part of the game, like it or not. But, yes, please more dekes!

fighting gives teams adrenaline and energy, it also makes the game funner to watch. A good hockey fight is just as exciting as a blistering slapshot tearing into the mesh!!
