Suggest all world religious leaders get together to identify and blackball manufactoring sweat shops. Simple: if "abc" company is using slave labour the rel. leaders ask their followecrs -could easily be 3 billion or more-- to not buy that product until the company provides better wages and working conditions
simple sounds like it

Hi
Was not paying attention to this site for a while but I will try to post a note more often.
Todays thought... The invasion of Iraq had to be done to remove the murder Saddam from power. Lately i have read that his santioned criminal acts were so terrible, that its hard to conceive.. The hell with the WMD, the removal of this new age Hitler was enought reason to invade and the UN should have been the leader in all this too! We cannot close our eyes to atrocities as they did when Hitler murdered so many Jews and others...
so there

Flicking the tv channels tonight and hit on "Ultimate fighting" where 2 guys get in a ring and with no holds barred and beat each other til one is out of it-- surprised one did not die! Do some die?
What bothered me was I was very disgusted and yet somehow fascinated -- I actually watched about 10 mins of the fight as I guess I couldn't beleive this is allowed and I soooo wanted to help the guy getting his face beat in.
What kind of animals are we when this sport is not illegal? It was like those cock-fights that we hear about where people bet but this was a human battle ugly scene.
Sometimes I want to find a nice spot and hide away in a kinda commune where its very civilized and peaceful...
Man, some of the world is nuts
and yet on the human side of the spectrum I met a lady who lives on a farm outside of montague and she gives food away on her front lawn to anyone who comes for it -- no questions asked this lady is a true angel
Tried to locate a newspaper sports article I read a week or so ago but guess I tossed it. But the gist of it was a writeup on the new PEI Rocket hockey team and how they played an exhibition game. About halfway through the article was a detailed section on how a certain player belted an opposing player and how well he landed his punches... it read a bit like a Boxing match article.
Do we have to highlight the fighting? Is it great to read "...he landed a few good jabs and a great uppercut..." Can't we just describe the speed of the game, the great passing, super moves, great dekes? Why highlight, why mention at all the ferocity of the icelevel fighting? Seems if I fight on the ice its OK, if I did the same on the street, I'd be arrested!
go to the following to ask me anything........
A Challenge to the leaders of all world religions?
There are enormous issues we hear about on a daily basis. There are crisis’ situations all over, such as the frighteningly strong possibility of war against Saddam, and the alarming nuclear threat in North Korea; there are strikes and violence in South America; there are 11,000 shootings in the USA yearly; there are reports of awful sweat shops worldwide producing goods of quality and ridiculously low prices and on and on and on.
Cannot the leaders of the major world religions meet and tackle these issues? These people lead and represent probably 80% of the population of the globe so their power to persuade their followers is ominous indeed. I hope these leaders are doing more than I hear in the news?
As a simple start these could leaders identify the large companies that have their products produced in sweatshops and demand that their followers not buy those products until the atrocious factory conditions are corrected? Have you visited the Dollar type stores and box stores and bought an item for a buck that must be produced at such a low cost as to ensure almost slave labor to produce it?
Lets get a list of these sweatshop- type companies and blacklist them peacefully into fair and equitable production practices. I’m sure our costs will increase at our local stores but that’s a small price to pay for a better world.
A challenge? let’s get on with action
Letter to the Editor
I just read the article on bonuses for senior federal employees and like most I feel upset, angry and powerless. A while back I read that the IWMC chief receives more than $150,000 per year and I disagreed with that amount but felt powerless then too. By the way Cleve is a talented, intelligent and professional person but I can name many others who too are talented and would do that job well for half the wages.
Back to the federal bonuses—the $39 million in bonuses is again way out of line. Those employees would do their jobs without the windfall or else many others would jump at the chance to do that work bonus free.
But I feel powerless. And very frustrated. I will send this letter to both the PEI Premier and the Prime Minister but they will not reduce exorbitant salaries or eliminate bonuses but they damn well should. I am fed up with all the out-of-line overspending as all government levels. I am asking all readers who agree to call their MLA and their MP plus the PM and Premier to voice their disapproval. By the way, that $39 million would go a long way to help worthwhile projects all over this country. The politicians should get real!
Let’s not be powerless—let’s try harder.
